The Challenge
I was asked to illustrate animals throughout the aquarium to replace outdated images and ensure they aligned with the newly redesigned signage. The goal was to create cohesive, modern visuals that enhanced the visitor experience while maintaining scientific accuracy and artistic appeal. Each illustration was carefully crafted to match the updated branding and exhibit themes, making the information more engaging and visually appealing. By refreshing the aquarium’s imagery, I helped create a more immersive and educational environment that better reflected the institution’s mission and design vision.
The Solution
The creative director quickly taught me how to illustrate the animals in the bold, dynamic style he envisioned—realistic yet with a superhero-like quality. He guided me on how to emphasize strong outlines and defining features, making each animal feel powerful and eye-catching while still maintaining accuracy. I adapted to this style quickly, refining my technique to create illustrations that felt both lifelike and stylized, perfectly complementing the aquarium’s updated signage and overall aesthetic. This approach gave the animals a striking presence, making the exhibits more visually engaging and memorable for visitors.
